The Story

Casita Bakes started as a microbakery, but a viral social media moment turned the small Houston business into something much bigger.

What initially caught my attention was the trajectory of the business. After a “day in the life” video racked up thousands of views on social media, Casita Bakes had built an audience online. But the story wasn’t simply that a bakery had gone viral. The more compelling question was: what happens after the internet discovers you?

At the time of the segment, Casita Bakes was juggling weekend sales while preparing to open its first storefront. That gave the story a natural arc from a small microbakery gaining unexpected attention to two young entrepreneurs taking the leap into their next chapter.

From Viral to Visual

I wanted the segment to go beyond the typical “local business goes viral” story. The upcoming storefront gave us a timely hook and an opportunity for the owners to share their next chapter with Houston.

I also helped shape the visual presentation of the segment. Casita Bakes brought its pastries, and while the products were already naturally photogenic, I wanted the setup to feel intentional and reflect the bakery’s personality. I added a tablecloth and greenery, arranged the display, and made sure the space felt polished, inviting, and consistent with the Casita Bakes aesthetic.

Those small details helped turn a simple studio setup into a space that felt more like the bakery itself. For a food-focused lifestyle segment, creating a visually appealing environment was just as important as the interview and storytelling.

Outcome

The segment gave Casita Bakes a platform to announce its upcoming storefront while introducing viewers to two young entrepreneurs and the family behind their business.

The story also extended beyond the broadcast, generating strong clicks and social media engagement for Great Day Houston and KHOU 11's digital platforms.

The combination of a viral business, a young entrepreneurial story, family support, and highly visual food content gave the segment appeal across television, web, and social.

Reflection

This story reinforced one of my favorite parts of producing: finding a story, taking a chance on it, and watching it become something bigger.

What made this segment especially rewarding was that I found Casita Bakes on my own through my social media feed. I saw a local business gaining attention online and wondered what might be behind the viral moment. Instead of scrolling past it, I reached out.

I also loved that Casita Bakes was an emerging local business rather than an established restaurant backed by a large hospitality group. Giving two young entrepreneurs a platform to share their story and announce their next chapter felt especially meaningful.

It reminded me to look beyond the obvious names and trust my instincts. Sometimes the best stories are the ones you notice, pursue, and help bring to life.
